Winzler to be Named Interim Superintendent

The former head of Bolton schools will fill the spot vacated by Dr. Jeffrey Villar who will be leaving Rocky Hill Public Schools at the end of the month.

 

The Board of Education approved a motion to enter into negotiations with Mark Winzler to become the new interim superintendent of schools at a special meeting Wednesday night. 

Winzler will serve as superintendent until a permanent replacement for Dr. Jeffrey Villar is found. Villar accepted the in December. Winzler made an appearance at the Thursday night.

Winzler will make $642 per day and is not paid benefits by the town. He is expected to make $25,881 this year, however because Winzler is working at a per diem rate and only gets paid on the days that he works.

Before Winzler retired in 2009, he was the superintendent of schools at Bolton. Since retirement, he has been an interim superintendent in Berlin, Granby and Watertown. He was the assistant superintendent and director of human resources for Windsor Public Schools from 2001- 2007.

Winzler was assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and personnel at Branford Public Schools and a vice principal at . 

He was a vice principal at  from 1986-1989 and then served as the principal of the school for 11 years. Before becoming an administrator, Winzler taught German and Spanish at  from 1974-1985.

A motion was also passed that appointed the Board of Education as the search committee, according to Chairwoman Raffaella Calciano-Coler. The board also voted to hire as the search agent to help them find a superintendent, she said.
