Hiking, Biking Club Visits Dividend Brook and Waterfall Area

The group hikes an area known for 19th century industrial buildings for their first hike.

 

The  went on their inaugural hike Sunday afternoon and revealed the Dividend Brook and Waterfall area to several residents for the first time.

formed the group in October to allow members to "connect with other like minded hikers-bikers."

On Sunday afternoon, about 25 hikers of all ages hiked through the Dividend Brook, the Higher and Lower Ponds and the Dividend waterfall area, according to club member Sandi Kelly. The three and a half mile hike was new to some of the club members.

“Many in the group weren't even aware of this pristine land right here in Rocky Hill,” Kelly said.

The area is “recognized as a significant state archeological area due to the existing foundations of 19th century industrial buildings,” she added.

Kelly said some club members have “worked at clearing and flagging the trails" in the area in recent weeks.

was one of the people who participated in the club's first hike and praised the group's leader.

"Ed Chiucarello did an awesome job as our guide and leader," MacDonald said. She added that there was "great turnout," which lead to an "absolutely spectacular afternoon."
