A $7.7 million building and renovation project in 1996 paved the way for what Griswold Middle School is today: A…More nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
Currently, more than 600 students attend the school and are involved in an academic program that includes courses in English, social studies, mathematics, science, foreign language, music, art, physical education, health, family and consumer science, technology education, and media and developmental guidance. Musical electives, such as band, jazz band, chorus and string programs, are also offered.
Its awards and recognitions include being named a "Middle School of the Year" in 1997 by The Connecticut Association of Schools. In 2000, the school was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. In 2002 it was picked as a "Spotlight School" by the New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS). In December 2007, 2008 and 2009, the school was again named a "Spotlight School," and in the 2008-09 school year it was also recognized by the Connecticut Association of Schools for outstanding "Teaming Practices."
