Food Drive to Benefit Town Pantry

Griswold Middle School students are being asked to donate food for those in need.

The will hold their second annual food drive at next week to help fill the .

Sixth grade students are being asked to donate the following items:

  • Canned Vegetables
  • Tuna
  • Canned Fruit
  • Stew
  • Peanut Butter

Seventh grade students are being asked to donate the following items:

  • Cereal
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Other Bagged or Boxed Items

Eighth grade students are being asked to donate the following items:

  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Lotions
  • Toothpaste
  • Laundry Detergent

The food drive competition will be held from Oct. 24 to 31. The classroom that collects the most items will receive a pizza party.

The spring and "non-holiday time" are when the food pantry is at its lowest, Lori Stanczyc, Youth Services coordinator and advisor, said. The food drive combined with the non-perishable food items collected from the  should help "fill up the food pantry," Stanczyc said.

"It is a give back to the community," Stanczyc said. The food should last about two weeks, she added.

The food drive is part of the 's efforts to stop substance abuse among teenagers during Red Ribbon Week.
