Soccer Camp Brings a Little Bit of Britain to Rocky Hill

Children of all ages and ability come together and learn the sport from expert coaches.

The Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp was held this week and allowed 30 lucky children the chance to improve their skills from high-level coaches.

Challenger Sports was established in 1985 and is a division of All American Indoor Sports Inc. The goal of the program is for campers to develop “new skills, build confidence and have fun.”

Campers between the ages of 6-13 spent the five-day camp performing individual foot and technical skills while competing in small-sided games and a World Cup tournament.

Instructors Ali Norman, 21, and Stephanie Danny, 22, broke the campers into smaller groups to improve their skills based on age and talent level.

Norman and Danny have both coached previously in other locations, but enjoy Rocky Hill for its relaxed atmosphere. Danny stated it was a great opportunity to “get to know American culture and work with kids”

“I love allowing them to learn soccer and enjoy it more,” Norman added.

The campers fooled around, but were serious about defeating each other in foot skill drills or in a makeshift “Knockout” contest.

“My favorite part is the teamwork,” Camper Chris Vassilopoulos, 13, said. “I like being able to play and get better with my friends.”
