Rocky Hill Teen Wins Hartford Riverfest Race

The 16-year-old Xavier student came out first during a race day mixed with near-record high temperatures.

A Rocky Hill teen won the annual Riverfest X-treme Scramble Series race in Hartford on Thursday.

The Hartford Courant reported that 16-year-old Gregson Curtin, a junior at Xavier High School in Middletown, crossed the finish line in under 11.5 minutes.

The race, while billed initially as a 5K, or 3.1 miles, was shortened to 2 miles because of the intense heat that has been blanketing Connecticut this week, The Courant reported.

Race officials told the Courant that typically 600-700 people will run in the race, but those numbers were likely smaller due to the weather.
