Rocky Hill Athlete Receives Academic Honor

Cross Country runner from Rocky Hill has been named to the America East all-academic team for the third straight year.

Boston University cross country runner and Rocky Hill native Katie Matthews was named to the America East All-Academic Team for the third time on Tuesday, according to a press release from the school.

To be considered for the honor, an athlete must have 3.30 GPA or above after completing one calendar year at the school and participating in at least 50% of the team’s contests. Mathews finished the season with 3.66 GPA while studying speech, language and hearing sciences, according to the release.

At the America East Championships, Mathews finished in second place only three seconds behind the race winner.  She won the New England Championships at Franklin Park on Oct. 7 with a time of 17:18, which was a career best.
