Rocky Hill Athletic Hall Of Fame Looking For Nominees For Rachel Carey Spirit Award

The award is named after a great Rocky Hill softball player who was taken too soon.

A press release from the Rocky Hill Athletic Hall of Fame:

The Rocky Hill Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominees for the 2014 Rachel Carey Spirit Award.

Rachel Carey was a Rocky Hill resident who began her softball career as a tee ball player in the Rocky Hill Baseball/Softball League.  She developed into an outstanding pitcher, leading the Junior All Star team to the state championship in 2000, Suffield Academy to division championships in 2001 and 2002, and competing in travel softball in the Connecticut Eliminators program.  Throughout it all, Rachel never lost sight of the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship.  Rachel left us at the age of 16 on January 6, 2003 after a car accident.

The Rocky Hill Athletic Hall of Fame established the Rachel Carey Spirit Award to recognize a high school female Rocky Hill resident student athlete who approaches her studies, athletics, and life with enthusiasm, determination, hard work, and a positive attitude.  She may not be the most gifted student or athlete but meets her challenges head on - never pausing in the drive to meet her goals.  She is a supportive, cooperative team player who puts others before herself.  She is a mentor who motivates and encourages others to excel through kindness and compassion.  She is competitive but also exhibits good sportsmanship.
