Photos: Seniors Battle in Wii Bowling

The Rocky Hill Rollers suffer tough loss to the Wii bowling team from the Bloomfield Senior Center.

 

A group of Rocky Hill seniors have been getting together each week and going bowling expect instead of using a ball, they are playing with a Wii controller.

That group is called the Rocky Hill Rollers and they have been playing together for over a year. Bowler Melodie Perretto said holding a Wii controller is easier on her hands than a bowling ball and less strain on her body.

"It is a simplified bowling game. You can still bowl with a flick of the wrist," she said. "You are not restricted it you have any handicap. It does not matter how you play it."

Recently, the group has competed in matches against teams from area senior centers. The Rollers beat the Cromwell Strikers 1,939 to 1,872 pins on March 14. On April 10, the Rocky Hill Rollers faced their toughest challenge when they faced the Bloomfield Warriors at the .

"I think we get a little more hyped," Perretto said about competing against other senior teams. "It makes us want to do our best."

The game between the two squads was a "friendly, but competitive competition" and was a chance to meet new people, Perretto said. She added that the Bloomfield Warriors play a different style of bowling.

"We learned a few things from them," Perretto said. "We had a good time."

Bloomfield went on to win the contest in a roll by over 521 pins (2190-1669). The Rocky Hill Rollers will play the Newington and Wethersfield senior center teams on April 20 in Newington, Wethersfield on their home turf on May 8 and against Glastonbury at Glastonbury Senior Center at May 17.

The meets every Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Community Center. Bowling is free and the group is always looking for new bowlers.

"We really have a lot of fun and it doesn't cost a penny," Perretto said. "Anyone can play at any age."
