Fall Sport Preview: Boys Soccer Team Wants to Improve on Last Season

The team has a mix of senior leadership and promising young talent.

The 2010 season was a dark mark on Rocky Hill’s legacy of winning soccer. Zero victories and two forfeits made it a season to forget. However, through only four games, the Rocky Hill boys soccer team has shown itself to be much improved. The expectations are much higher in 2011 and for good reason.

Under head coach Victor Santos, the terriers are a good mix of senior leadership and promising young talent. The team starts three seniors, including standout centers Michael Scalise and Max Monarca and has four sophomores in starting roles. Key bench players will include junior Bradley Adams and freshman Vinnie Catania.

For Santos, the team’s chemistry is their greatest strength. The balance between more and less experienced players on the squad has fostered the sense of teamwork between them. Santos admits that he has “six or seven interchangeable players,”  but that has only helped to allow Rocky Hill to be more of a team.

“The biggest strength is the players believing in each other,” he said. “Our players have grown working together with one another.”

The terriers are 3-1 on season after dominating Hartford Public 5-0 Tuesday. The team's only loss was to E.O. Smith, 6-2 on Monday. The next test for Rocky Hill will be on Thursday when they play Fermi of Enfield at home at 3:45 p.m.
