Volleyball Players Honored at Sports Night

Kyley Reed and Megan Ruonavaara were named the team's most valuable players and voted to the all-conference team along with Julie Stoneburner. Reed was also named to the all-state team as well.

 

The girls’ volleyball players received several honors at the Rocky Hill High School sports night on Tuesday.

On Nov. 19, the Rocky Hill High School girls’ volleyball team to become state champions for the first time.

On Tuesday, the girls’ volleyball team captains Kyley Reed and Megan Ruonavaara presented Principal Mario Almeida with the Class M volleyball state champion plaque, which will be placed in the trophy case at .

The captains also unveiled the 2011 volleyball Class M state championship banner to the crowd, which will be hung in the gym at a later date. The girls’ team received a standing ovation from the crowd.

State championship volleyball was presented to the Athletic Director Tom McCabe by the captains to be placed in the trophy case as well.

The junior varsity team finished with a 13-4 record and Kelsey Ott and Brianna Novello were named the team's most valuable players.

The varsity team finished with 18-4 record, Julie Stoneburner was named offensive player of the year and Ruonavaara and Reed were named the team's most valuable players.

Stoneburner, Ruonavaara and Reed were all named to the all-conference team. Reed was also voted to the all-state first team for the third straight year and was one of only 24 girls in the country named to the First Team Under Armour All American. The Class M volleyball tournament final most valuable player was Reed.
