Terriers Outlast Blue Devils in Home Opener

Spencer Bunting pitched six strong innings for the Rocky Hill High School baseball team in the win.

 

The  baseball defeated perennial power Plainville, 5-3, in its home opener Thursday afternoon.

Fans and parents were treated to a dominating pitching performance by sophomore Spencer Bunting. He pitched six strong innings with seven strikeouts and gave up only two hits on his way to the win.

"Spencer Bunting took control and carried the Terriers to victory with an excellent performance on the mound," said Rocky Hill Baseball Head Coach George McKinnon.

Bunting also helped his own cause. He had a hit and scored a run, McKinnon added.

Sophomore Chris Bouchard pitched the seventh and earned his first save of the season.

Senior captain Jeff Osak led off the game with a long home run that cleared the 351-foot sign in center field. Freshmen Shaun Mckinnon added a run scoring single in the third inning to bolster the lead. The Terriers would score three more runs in the fifth inning.

The Blue Devils did not get on the board until the third inning and added two more runs in the seventh.

Jack grant, Chris Bouchard and Josh Zawisa all had a hit for Terriers on Wednesday.

McKinnon said his players played hard, got timely hits and took advantage of two errors by the Blue Devils.

“Great first win for the young terriers,” he said. “It’s always great to win on opening day and especially a great feeling to beat Plainville which has been a baseball power for years.”

The Terriers return to the diamond on Friday afternoon as they take on Wilcox Tech at 1 p.m. at Rocky Hill High School.
