Superintendent Gets Fond Farewell

The Board of Education gives the school chief an enthusiastic sendoff.

 

Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Villar attended his last official Board of Education meeting Thursday night and the board members thanked him for his service to Rocky Hill.

Villar has  to become their new superintendent. His last day will be Jan. 31.

"We are happy to see his success, but sad to see his departure," said Board of Education Chairwoman Raffaella Calciano-Coler. "We believe it was an awesome four years. I will personally miss him."

Calciano-Coler credited Villar with improving the schools' curriculum and technology.

"We really have achieved a significant stride for the children of Rocky Hill and that is due to the excellent leadership that we were served with by Dr. Villar."

Board member Frank K. Morse thanked him for his commitment to the school community and for helping him as a new member learn the roles of the board, central office and the superintendent. He added that he hopes that the new leadership will continue to "strive for excellence."

Board member Brian Dillon called Villar a role model to board members and wished him well in his future endeavors.

"It has been an honor and privilege to work with all of you," Villar said

Fall Sports Update

Athletic Director/ Coordinator of Student Activities Thomas McCabe said that 232 student athletes participated in fall sports this year in his presentation to the board Thursday night.

"We had a lot to celebrate this fall," he said.

The Rocky Hill football won CCC West division title and made the state playoffs. However, they were .

Boys' cross country , but

also reached the quarterfinals in the state tournament.

However, it was the girls' volleyball team who "stole the show this season," McCabe said as they won the in school's history.

"It was fun to follow them through," McCabe said.

There were 70 student athletes who made the all-academic CCC team, according to McCabe. There were 29 players named to all-conference teams and seven chosen for all-state teams.

"Those are great numbers for ," McCabe stated. "And hopefully, we will give you a good report in the winter."
