Rocky Hill Superintendent Warns About Child Porn Spam on Facebook

Superintendent Mark Zito wrote a letter to parents informing them that the school district is aware of the issue, although there have been no reports in Rocky Hill.

Dear Parent, Guardian, or Staff Member,

I am writing this afternoon regarding information brought to our attention by other area school superintendents. Recently, the Farmington Police Department learned that a computer virus containing disturbing pornagraphic images was received by some Farmington High School students on their personal Facebook accounts. The Farmington police have learned that the virus is presented "as a friend" who wishes to share a video. If the video is opened, it attaches to the user's Facebook account and get shared with all of the user's Facebook "friends." The video itself has been described as extremely graphic and disturbing. If your child has a Facebook account, please tell him or her to refrain from opening any shared videos.

At this time, we have been informed that the Farmington Police Department and the Hartford Police Department are working on this case. Moreover, we have been informed that the FBI is involved. When this was brought to our attention, we immediately shared the information with the Rocky Hill Police Department. We felt it was important to bring this matter to your attention as well.

Respectfully,

Dr. Mark Zito
