Rocky Hill Football Team Defeats Tolland 35-20

Young and DeNardo led the Terriers to the victory.

The Rocky Hill football team led by the rushing attack of Chris Young and Alex DeNardo beat Tolland High School 35-20 Friday night.

The Terriers started their scoring with a 40-yard run by Young with 9:48 left in the first quarter. However, less than two minutes later, Tolland countered with a 1-yard touchdown run by Tom Day.

Rocky Hill High School would score three straight touchdowns to close out the second half. Young would score on a 9-yard run with 6:34 left in the first quarter and on a 1-yard run with 6:07 left in the second quarter. DeNardo scored the third touchdown on a run with only six seconds left in the second half.

Day got Tolland back on the board with a 6-yard touchdown run with 6:24 left in the third quarter. About a minute later, DeNardo scored on a 59-yard run to put the game away. Chris Byam would add a touchdown for Tolland on a 30-yard run with 11:48 left in the fourth quarter.

Young rushed for 189 yards on 20 carries and three scores. DeNardo rushed for 144 yards on 18 carries and two scores.

Rocky Hill did not attempt a pass the whole game and when quarterback Troy Syme did drop back for one, he was sacked.

The Rocky Hill defense played well and stuck to their assignments while stopping Tolland's triple option.

Rocky Hill was ranked in the top 10 in Class S before the game and jumped to seventh after the win. If the playoffs ended today, Rocky Hill would be in the playoffs. The Terriers are 6-2 on the season.

The Terriers plays Bristol Central on Friday at Rocky Hill High School at 7 p.m.
