Rocky Hill CAPT Test Slightly Increase; CMTs Fluctuate

The state released the results of the 2013 standardized test scores.

Test scores among tenth grade students at Rocky Hill High School went up slightly in 2013 over 2012, results from this past week showed.

Rocky Hill students taking the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) improved in the science, reading and writing disciplines, while dipping slightly in the math area. According to the results, 78.6 percent scored at or above proficiency in math in 2013. compared to 78.8 percent. 

In science, the 81.7 percent score at or above proficiency, in reading it was 81 percent and in writing it was 88.9 percent.

Connecticut Mastery Test results showed some increases and decreases across each grade, however at the very least, about 85 percent of Rocky Hill students taking those tests scored at or above the proficiency level.

The CMTs are administered to all students from grade three to grade eight. Students are tested in math, reading and writing, and in middle school, they are tested in science as well.

Students are labeled based on their performance. The labels, in descending order, for both CMTs and CAPTs are advanced, goal, proficient, basic and below basic.
