Reed Honored by Gatorade, School for her Accomplishments

The high school girls' volleyball team captain was given a banner and trophy from Gatorade after winning a national award.

 

After having one of the best seasons in the history of girls’ volleyball, Kyley Reed received a banner and trophy from Gatorade after being named for Connecticut at halftime of the Tuesday night.

Gatorade Company, who gives the award in collaboration with ESPNHS, awards the honor to student athletes who show "outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court," according to the release.

Reed, who won the award on Dec. 14, is the first volleyball student athlete from Rocky Hill High School ever honored with the award. Reed recorded 578 kills, 460 digs, 133 service aces and 31 blocks while posting a hitting percentage of .598 this season, according to the release. In her career, Reed had , the release said.

She maintained a 3.37 GPA in the classroom and helped with fundraising efforts for breast cancer research, the release stated. Reed has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Rice University next fall on a full scholarship.

"This is some positive publicly coming out of Rocky Hill," said Athletic Director/Coordinator of Student Activities Thomas McCabe, who presented Reed with the trophy and banner. "We are very proud." 

Reed took the microphone and thanked the crowd for attending the basketball game and supporting the volleyball team. She used the opportunity to thank her teammates for helping her win the award and the .

"I couldn't have done it without you," Reed said. "It was a great season."
