Presentation Provides Details For All-Day Kindergarten

Move will establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years.

 

Specific details were provided at a recent Board of Education meeting and the attached PDF files shows the presentation.

According to the report: "The Rocky Hill Public Schools’ Full Day Kindergarten Program will establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years in a safe and caring environment that promotes not only the cognitive and academic development of all children, but also their physical, social and emotional development."

  • Supports literacy and language development
  • Benefits children socially and emotionally
  • Decreases costs by reducing retention and remediation rates

Approximately 73 school districts currently provide full-day kindergarten to all of their students. Rocky Hill is in DRG D: The following statistics come from schools in DRG D:

  • 13/24 districts have full-day kindergarten
  • 4/24 district have partial full-day kindergarten programs
  • 2/24 districts are working on implementing for the 2013-2014 school year
  • 5/24 districts in DRG D (including Rocky Hill) are without a full-day kindergarten program.

Additional staffing with benefits with benfits will cost $105,000 but there is potential for savings in additional areas such as transportation and tuition costs.
