New School In Rocky Hill Teaches Advanced Way To Learn Mathematics

Russian School Advanced Math Program for K-12 children is renowned for developing excellence in mathematics and lifelong critical thinking skills.

Inessa Rifkin wanted to find a way to get more math help for her child. She teamed with a successful teacher Irina Khavinson to start a program in her home.

From those humble beginnings came The Russia School of Mathematics.

The Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) after-school math program - renowned for developing excellence in mathematics and life-long critical thinking skills - will open its first branch in Connecticut this summer in response to the ever-increasing demand for quality after-school math education from families in Rocky Hill. It will be located at 1880 Silas Deane Hwy.

RSM-Rocky Hill is currently enrolling students for its six-week summer math program which begins July 8th. To learn more, visit www.russianschool.com.

The math school will be run by Berlin native and Harvard graduate Christopher Green, who brings his experiences as a teacher of advanced mathematics, math curriculum consultant, and SAT tutor to his new role as math school principal.

"The key is creating an enjoyable learning environment that emphasizes understanding over rote memorization, supported by a systematic curriculum and well-trained, enthusiastic teachers who can pass their love of math on to their students," said RSM spokesman Kristin Lynch.

Once based in the Rifkin family living room, the after-school math program’s aim has always been to help students get into the best colleges by giving them a set of skills they would find valuable in any profession. RSM has seen demand for its math program increase dramatically over the years and the math school today enrolls more than 8,000 students in six states.
