Megan Bennett was named the new principal at a recent board of education meeting.
The board of education unanimously approved the superintendent's selection at the June 16 meeting. Superintendent Jeffrey Villar called Bennett "one of the sharpest elementary school candidates ever."
"It is like coming home," Bennett told the board of education members. "Thank you for making that process come full circle for me."
Bennett, who was born and raised in Rocky Hill, was the principal at E.H. Bennett Elementary School in Taunton, MA. Her first day at West Hill Elementary School will be July 1st.
Cori-Ann DiMaggio resigned at the end of the school. She served as the principal at West Hill for the past seven years and worked at the for six years as principal and an assistant principal. DiMaggio was the first assistant principal at the Griswold Middle School and is believed to be the first female principal at West Hill Elementary School.
"I thank her for her service, she was a fabolous principal," Villar said at the board of education meeting.
DiMaggio said that she has worked with great administrators over her career and is appreciative of the parent community and her wonderful students. Working in the Rocky Hill school system has been more than a job for DiMaggio and she is sad to leave.
"I feel like I am leaving home," DiMaggio said. Her family relocated to the shoreline last year and DiMaggio wanted a job closer to home. She is taking a position as the principal for Westbrook Middle School.
