McKinnon: 'Great Week' For Rocky Hill Baseball

The Terriers won two games and tied another one last week, according to its head coach.

 

The Rocky Hill baseball team got dominating hitting and pitching performances from its young players as they defeated Hartford Public and Tolland high schools and tied Fermi this week.

The baseball team came back from an early deficit to dominate and defeat Hartford Public 15-1 at home on April 23. 

The Owls took a 1-0 lead into the second inning. However, the Terriers broke open the game with a 11-run barrage, according to an email from head coach George McKinnon Sunday night.

The Rocky Hill offense was lead by freshmen Shaun McKinnon, who was 3 for 4 including two doubles, and five RBIs. Sophomore Tommy Seaver went 2 for 3 with one RBI and Brandon Grover homered in the second inning.

Junior Dan Madigan pitched five strong innings and only allowed one run with seven strikeouts. Senior Jack Grant pitched the final two innings of the game in which he only allowed one hit and had two strikeouts.

Rocky Hill Ties Fermi 5-5

After 16 innings, the Terriers and the Eagles could not break a 5-5 tie on April 25 and the game was suspended due to darkness until May 14. The game will be finished before a second game against Fermi will be played at . 

Rocky Hill was down 5-1 when in the sixth inning a two-RBI single by sophomore Spencer Bunting brought the Terriers within two. In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Chris Bouchard tied the game with a two out two-run single to send it into extra innings.

Seaver pitched six innings only allowing one hit and 11 strikeouts in what his coach “a dominant performance.” Bunting pitched the final five innings allowing no runs and striking out seven.

Rocky Hill Defeats Tolland 13-5

The Terriers got strong hitting performances from senior Jeff Osak, Bouchard, Seaver and McKinnon to lead the team over Eagles 13-5 at .

Osak, who was hitting in the two spot for the first time this year, went 5-5 including two long homeruns to center field. He had three RBIs and played a “great defensive game at shortstop,” McKinnon said.

Bouchard was 4-4 with two RBIs and McKinnon went 2-4 including two doubles with two RBIs. Seaver scored four times on the day as he went 3-3 with two doubles and two walks.

Junior Dan Madigan got his third win of the year when he came in relief and pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing no runs on one hit.  

McKinnon said it was a "great week" for his team that improved to 5-4. 

"Pitching has started to come around and we are starting to get the big hits when we need them. Defensively, we are improving," he said. "These boys have been competing in every game and giving 100 percent out there on the field."

The Terriers will play at on Monday, RHAM at the RHAM High School Athletic Complex on Wednesday and Bristol Eastern (which is a Class LL school) at Bristol Eastern High School on Friday. All games will start at 3:45 p.m.
