It Was A Beautiful Night For Rocky Hill High School Graduation

Graduates celebrate in all kinds of fashions under their caps and gowns.

One could not help but think what a beautiful night it was for the 2013 Rocky Hill High School graduation.

On Monday and Tuesday dangerous thunderstorms rumbled through the Hartford County and with the graduation set for McVicar Field outside at RHHS, there was cause for concern.

But the night was clear warm but even got a bit chilly later in the evening.

"The weather tonight is perfect for this night because this was a great class and a great group of kids," Rocky Hill High School Principal Mario Almeida said.

Co-Valedictorians David and James Wang gave a funny speech centering on a pro-and-con theory.

"Here’s a list of pros and cons about various iconic features of Rocky Hill High School that we will all remember," said the twins. "Cafe Study Halls...Pro: Work on group projects and study for classes together with your friends. Con: Not doing one thing he just said. Mr. Kotak...Pro: Listening to him offer funny insights about our generation. Con: Realizing that we’re actually being indirectly insulted."

James Wang also gave a speech as President of the Class of 2013.

"I realized, just a few months ago, something that changed the way I thought about myself, the people around me, and the way I thought about the world. It is this: the things we hate in others are the same things we see in ourselves. I'll be honest with you, I hate selfish people...but, I take a good look at myself and I realize, good grief, I'm selfish! What does this mean then? It means that before I go off on someone else, l should take a look at myself. It means that if I'm going to change anything, then I should start with changing the person I see in the mirror."

After the ceremony, the graduates will return to the school for an all-night graduation party.
