Devoted Teachers To Receive Award

Sam's Club is donating 10 gift cards to teachers at Stevens School.

will honor 10 teachers at Thursday morning for donating their time and money to their students' education.

“Teachers across the country spent more than $1.33 billion out of pocket collectively on schools supplies,” according to a press release. Three years ago, Wal-Mart and established the Teachers Rewards program, which donates $100 gift cards to kindergarten through eighth grade school teachers who “dedicate their time and money” to help better the education of their students.

“Public school teachers are one of our nation’s most valuable resources. Our children’s’ future are shaped every day by the efforts of our teachers,” principal John Colonghi said. “It is fitting that Sam’s Club recognizes them and support their work through programs such as the Teacher Rewards program.”

The money will be used to help buy “much-needed classroom supplies” for their students. The money can be used to purchase the following items:

  • Paper
  • Folders
  • Binders
  • Clipboards
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Markers

“ appreciates the impact teachers continue to make in our community,” said Barry Goldberg, Senior Marketing representative. “We know our educators contribute not only their time, but also their money to ensure our students have a successful school year. The Teacher Rewards program is our way of saying thank you.”

A presentation will be held at 8 a.m. at Thursday. Colonghi, Goldberg and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeffrey Villar are expected to attend the event.
