Zoning Board Of Appeals Gives Lions Club Three More Years At Elm Ridge Park For Carnival

Commission votes unanimously for appeal.

Each year the Rocky Hill Lions Club runs a carnival at Elm Ridge Park and up until this year had to go before the Zoning Board of Appeals to ask permission because a carnival was not intended to be carried out on these town-owned grounds.

At the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting recently a large crowd gathered to make sure the carnival kept going forward.

"I am the Treasurer of the Rocky Hill Lions Club and I'm not sure exactly what to say other than we have been having this carnival for probably 30 years now and we have to come before you to ask for permission each year," Phillip Theroux said before the commission. "I have the letter and legal notices that we have published as part of the process, which I can give to you."

This year the appeal by the Lions included this year, 2014 and 2015.

The Board asked Theroux if the Lions leave the space the same as it was before it put on the carnival and Theroux answered affirmatively.

The Commission voted unanimously for the appeal and the Lions are good to go for the next three years at Elm Ridge Park.
