Willow Road Senior Housing Complex Receives Small Cities Grant

The money will be used to renovate the housing complex.

The Willow Road Senior Housing received a $700,000 small cities grant from the state of Connecticut Friday, which will be used for renovations to the facility.

Willow Road Senior Housing is a 40-unit rental senior housing complex. The money will be used for:

  • Electrical upgrades
  • Energy and weatherization improvements
  • Installation of four new gas boilers
  • Replacement of kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program provides grants to eligible municipalities for economic development, affordable housing, community facilities and other revitalization projects, according to the press release from the governor's office.

“Anything we can do to the improve quality of life for seniors is a step in the right direction,” said Rep. Tony Guerrera (D-Rocky Hill). “Residents of Willow Road deserve a safe and affordable home.”

The state awarded small cities grants totaling $12,342,000 to 28 towns, the governor's release stated.

“For most Connecticut towns and smaller cities, budgets are stretched thin but their infrastructure needs and the housing needs of their residents haven’t diminished,” said Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.  “That’s why the Small Cities program — and the federal grants the program awards — are so critical.  The funding is key to these communities and their efforts to improve the lives of residents through housing programs and community projects."
