Video: Blumenthal Visits Meriden Shelter Saturday

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal visited the Meriden Senior Center Saturday night to laud the city's efforts to assist residents during this week's prolonged power outages and lash CL&P's response.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) told those at Meriden's Senior Center – the city's final shelter for residents still without power after seven days – Saturday night that he was calling for a federal inquest of Connecticut Light and Power's actions following Storm Alfred.

"Meriden was particularly hard hit in losing power and I think there are a lot of tough questisons that CL&P needs to answer, which is why I have called for an investigation by … the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission," Blumenthal said in an interview with Patch Saturday. "We need to be better prepared for this, so this kind of totally unacceptable lag time doesn’t happen again."
