Town Center West Moves Forward

Zone Change Approved at PZC Meeting

The Town Center West is moving forward.

The planning and zoning commission approved a zone change for the property located on the southeast corner of West Street and Cromwell Avenue at the June 15 meeting. The 26-acre property was zoned office park and commercial and is now zoned only commercial.

Office park zoning does not allow retail and zoning for commercial use does retail. The proposed Town Center West Project is expected to contain mixed use including 140,000 sq. feet of retail and 20,000 sq. feet of office space.

The property was owned by Connecticut Light and Power, but the Department of Public Utility Control approved sale of the property to the town. The town turned the rights of the property over to Richard W. Vicino.

However, since the town owned the property at one time, they can determine what is developed on the land.
