Town Council Cancels December Meeting

The final meeting of 2011 was cancelled and the Town Council approved the 2012 schedule Monday night.

The council approved the cancellation of the Dec. 19 meeting, so that new television equipment could be installed.

The town received a $45,000 grant from the Department of Public Utility Control to revamp all the broadcasting equipment in Town Hall. The equipment is expected to arrive around Dec. 16 and will be installed immediately after that, Town Manager Barbara Gilbert said. The installation should finished around Jan. 13, she added.

"The council could meet, but this room will be somewhat torn up."

If a meeting was held in the Council Chambers while the repairs are being done, there would be no ability to broadcast or record the meeting because workers would have to remove the old equipment before new items could be installed.

A longer Town Council meeting is expected to be held on Dec. 5. If a special meeting needs to be held after Dec. 5, Gilbert said she would find a room in Town Hall for the Town Council to use.

"Should something arise and we need to have an emergency meeting," said Mayor Anthony LaRosa. "We will find a space to have it."

Design Review Board Dismissed

LaRosa informed the public that there will no longer be a  in town.

The was formed seven years ago to make recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission, LaRosa stated. Applicants would visit with the and get advice to help receive approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission. 

However, 90% of the time, the Planning and Zoning Commission was telling the applicants to change what the had advised them to do, according to LaRosa.

"It was costing more money and time for the applicants," LaRosa said. "It was something that was supposed to be a positive that has turned into a negative."

Often the would not have enough members for a quorum and again that would cost the applicants time and money, LaRosa said.

"It doesn't seem to be working out."
