Rocky Hill Seeking Fines Against 60 West St. Nursing Home

The town's zoning enforcement officer is seeking permission from the claim's commissioner to pursue fines and penalties.

The fight to stop a nursing home from operating in Rocky Hill is still not over.

Town officials are now looking to fine both the property owner and the facility operator who are in the process of bringing a nursing home at 60 West St. for older prisoners and mental patients.

The Hartford Courant reported that Rocky Hill Assistant Zoning Officer Kimberly Ricci wrote a letter to Commissioner J. Paul Vance Jr. to allow a lawsuit against SecureCareRealty LLC and SecureCare Options LLC, the former being the property owner.

The Courant reported that the two companies are providing care for prisoners and patients in violation of local zoning restrictions.

Ricci had issued a cease-and-desist order in June against the business.

Town officials and local legislators have unanimously opposed the state-backed, 95-bed nursing home, which would house elderly prisoners and the mentally ill. Rocky Hill made all attempts to block the facility from coming to town, including filing a lawsuit in Superior Court.

A judge dismissed the lawsuit and the town has appealed.
