Rocky Hill Opposes New Nursing Home

The state will hold an informational meeting Dec. 20 on the proposal for a nursing home for prisoners and the mentally ill.

Officials here are opposing a plan for a 95-bed nursing home that would house elderly prisoners and the mentally ill.

The plan by the iCare Management nursing home chain for the facility at 60 West St., is being opposed by the Town Council, which will meet with its lawyer in a private session next week to discuss the proposal, according to the Hartford Courant.

The plan is being backed by the state's Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, which would license the facility and hopes to see it open by February, the Courant reports.

Because of mounting concern here, however, the agency has planned a public meeting on the plan for Dec. 20. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Rocky Hill High School Auditorium.
