Rocky Hill Official Issues Cease-and-Desist Order Against Nursing Home
The town charges the nursing home operator, SecureCare Options LLC, with illegally operating the facility in a residential zone.
A Rocky Hill zoning official has filed a cease-and-desist order against the operators of a 60 West St. nursing home facility.
The Hartford Courant reported Wednesday that the order was filed by Assistant Zoning Officer Kimberly Ricci, and it charges SecureCare Options LLC — the nursing home operator — with illegally operating the facility in a residential zone.
These types of facilities aren’t allowed in residential areas and would have to be subjected to a special permit, the Courant reported.
The property owners have 30 days to file an appeal with the zoning board, which they have not done yet, and if it does not file an appeal then the town could impose fines against SecureCare, the Courant reported.
Town officials and local legislators have unanimously opposed the state-backed, 95-bed nursing home, which would house elderly prisoners and the mentally ill. Rocky Hill made all attempts to block the facility from coming to town, including filing a lawsuit in Superior Court.
A judge dismissed the lawsuit and the town has appealed.
