Rocky Hill Mayor Moriarty Proud of His Service To The Town

He will run for Mayor against Republican Henry Vasel in the November elections.

Rocky Hill Mayor Tim Moriarty took over when Anthony LaRosa resigned earlier this year. In the time since then, Moriarty is proud of how much has been done under his watch and how much is in the works for the upcoming years.

Moriarty will top the Democratic ticket, running for Mayor against Republican Henry Vasel in the November elections. He will be joined running for Town Council by fellow Democrats Kevin Clements, William "Bill" MacDonald, Alan Mordhorst, Barbara Surwilo and Joe Kohanek.

"I have a lot of confidence in everyone that is running," Moriarty said. "We have a diverse team. It's nice to have some new people coming up and what I like the most is that nobody running has an agenda. We have a nice mix of experience and new ideas.

"I've been on the Council for the past eight years and Deputy Mayor the last two before becoming Mayor. I bring a lot of experience and so do Barbara, Bill and Joe. Alan and Kevin are coming over from Planning and Zoning and will be great additions."

Moriarty said he has heard the Republicans say what is wrong with the town but he reminds residents that he was behind some of the major wins for the town.

"I gave a big push for the high school," Moriarty said. "The roof is leaking and it’s going to continue to leak. We needed to get that referendum passed. We couldn't wait any longer. I agree we need to budget for capital items so we don't go to referendum and we have done that. We have $1.2 million in the budget for sprinklers at West Hill School.

"I think everyone, Republican or Democrat want the same thing for the town. We want the town to move forward. The question is how do we get there. I'm proud that we have been able to keep down taxes unlike a lot of surrounding towns. We have done that while adding things to town like a dump truck and two police cruisers. People will tell you don't raise my taxes but don't cut my services either. It doesn't work like that. But we've done as good a job as is possible and we're proud of that."
