Hearing on Town Center West Continued Until June

The traffic engineer for the project will make a presentation at the next Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

 

The Planning and Zoning Commission will again discuss the proposed 142,000-square-foot project at the southeast corner of West Street and Cromwell Avenue after the public hearing on the topic was continued until next month.

Applicant Richard W. Vicino is proposing to build a shopping center called Town Center West similar to the one in Blue Back Square in West Hartford or the Evergreen Walk in South Windsor. The plans include a 4,500-square-foot bank, a 6,500-square-foot restaurant and two other retail buildings with one being more than 15,000 square feet and another more than 10,000 square feet.

By continuing the hearing, the public will also get another chance to comment on the project. Two people spoke during the public hearing on Wednesday, Town Planner Kim Ricci said.

The public hearing on the project will be at the Planning and Zoning Commission’s next scheduled meeting on June 20 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Council Chambers at .

At the hearing, a presentation will be made by the traffic engineer for the project. Many of the commission members had questions on driveway access to the site and traffic related issues, Ricci said.

The project is currently in front of the Open Space and Conservation Commission. the site in late April to get a better understanding of the area and the project itself. A second public hearing will be held on May 9 at 6 p.m., with members possibly taking action that night.

The Planning and Zoning Commission cannot take action on the application until the Open Space and Conservation Commission renders its decision.

After receiving input from Open Space Commission members, the applicant is currently making revisions to the plans, which will be presented at both hearings. Some changes involved removing items from around the pond at the corner of West Street and Cromwell Avenue. These changes could lead to the elimination of some parking spaces.

The texts and/or maps for the application are on file in the Planning Department at Town Hall and can be viewed by any member of the public.
