Doyle Donates to Veterans

Governor and state legislators give back to the residents of the Connecticut Veterans' Home during the ninth Annual Secret Santa Collection.

 

Sen. Paul Doyle (D-Rocky Hill) along with Gov. Dannel Malloy and state legislators handed out clothes, games and books to the residents of the during the ninth Annual Secret Santa Collection on Dec. 20.

“The hundreds of veterans at the Rocky Hill have served our country with honor and distinction, and they all deserve our thanks and praise,” Doyle said. "Many of these veterans have fallen on hard times, and in this holiday season, it is especially appropriate to collect these gifts to show our appreciation, and spread some cheer."

The collection that is organized by Rep. Betty Boukus (D-Plainville) receives donations from legislators, their staff and the public. Veterans were able to get items free of charge of which some were used by the residents themselves or given to family members as presents. The following items were donated this year:

  • Leather Jackets
  • Sweaters
  • Socks
  • Various Clothing Items
  • Books
  • Toys
  • Video Games
  • Board Games

“The Rocky Hill Veterans' Home is the second largest veterans’ domicile in the US, home to 380 veterans. Many of them are homeless, and have very little to call their own,” said . "Especially at this time of year, the donation of these items tells our veterans that they are not forgotten, that they do have friends, and that they are greatly appreciated."
