After Questions From P&Z Commissioners and Comments Public Hearing on River's Edge Continued Again

Commission hears lots of information from applicant and also and hears from residents.

It was another long meeting for the Planning & Zoning Commission Wednesday night as Attorney Michael Romano and others representing the River's Edge proposal at the former site of the Connecticut Foundry attempted to present more information and provide more answers for the commissioners.

The River's Edge team provided testimony and extra information on its proposal, which would include five buildings, and be a mixed-use facility. Included in the plan are condominiums and retail space along with a park and walkway.

One of the major revelations that came to light on this night was that an Association of owners of the condominiums and retails shops will take on a great responsibility when it comes several areas. Many of the questions that came from the commissioners asked who would be responsible for certain areas of the proposal. That is when Romano talked briefly about the association and their responsibilities.

Those areas include:

  • Parking areas
  • The River Walk
  • Possibly parts of the Tulisano Park

Resident Henry Wisnowski stated that he did not want the River Walk or a nearby street to be named "Patricia's Way." He asked the Commission to name it for David Cook or not name it at all but to definitely make sure it has Rocky Hill historical significance.

While the Commission continued the hearing, it has gotten further down the road to making a decision. The Open Space and Conservation Commission has to make a decision first before P&Z can make their decision.

Comments from the public were from the usual suspects. Basically the same few people who attend the meetings spoke on behalf of the proposal and the same, who don't like it, spoke against.
