Exhaust Fan Causes Fire at Stevens School

Firefighters rushed to scene June 28 after smoke triggered an alarm.

An overheated exhaust fan is believed to be the cause of a fire at Myrtle H. Stevens Elementary School on June 28.

Firefighters were called to Stevens School at 7:40 p.m. after the fire alarm was activated. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke inside the gym and visible fire coming from the exhaust fan, fire marshal Richard Renstrom said.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire with a fire extinguisher. There was no smoke or fire damage to the building and the exhaust fan had to be replaced, Renstrom added.
