Rocky Hill Police Revamp Wildlife Call Guidelines

Officers will respond to animals that pose an 'immediate threat.'

Rocky Hill officers are asking that residents only dial police for wild animal assistance when the creature creates 'an immediate threat,' Deputy Police Chief William Keehner said in an article on the Hartford Courant website.

Police offered the clarification after some recent bear sightings in town. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection wildlife officials and animal control officers were not available to respond at the time, the Courant said.

Keehner explained that police would be responding to calls for rabid, trapped, injured or aggressive animals.
