North Haven Man Charged with Driving Drunk During Hurricane

He plowed through police barriers and hit a tree that had fallen in the road, according to police.

A North Haven man is facing charges that he was driving drunk during Hurricane Sandy.

At about 9:30 p.m. Monday night Hamden Police responded to a report of a car accident on Benham Street, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

They found a car had struck a tree that was lying in the road, Smith said, and upon investigating, discovered that the driver, Marc Torello, 44, of 337 Basset Rd., North Haven, had driven through police tape and several police barricades before hitting the tree.

"The caution tape, barricades and tree were located in a well-lit area," Smith said.

Torello failed sobriety tests, Smith said, and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

He posted $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 8.

Officers Stephen DeGrand and Eric Goclowski conducted the investigation, Smith said.

I know this family personally and they are all crazy! No matter how old one is, it always reflects back on how they were raised! What a shame and an embarrassment for them!
