Library Evacuated As A 'Precaution'

Melted wires cause evacuation.

 

The staff at the had to evacuate the patrons from the building Thursday afternoon after someone smelled a strange odor.

The was called to 33 Church St. around 12:45 p.m. after library visitors complained about the smell of fire in the building.

When they arrived, Fire Marshal Richard Renstrom said that wires had heated up and melted. However, there was no fire damage. There were no problems with carbon monoxide, he added.

“The building was evacuated as a precaution," Renstrom said. “By the time we got there everything was fine.”

The firefighters used fans to vent the building to clear out any smoke. People were allowed to enter the building by 1:30 p.m.
