Town Center West Goes in Front of PZC

A proposed 142,000 square foot “lifestyle” shopping center at the southeast corner of West Street and Cromwell Avenue could be approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission tonight.

The , which would be similar to one in Blue Back Square in West Hartford, include a 4,500 square foot bank, a 6,500 square foot restaurant and two other retail buildings with one being over 15,000 square feet and the other over 10,000 square feet.

Open Space and Conservation Commission, , unanimously approved the permit application for the project at its meeting on June 13, according to Rocky Hill Engineering Technician Robert Alvarado.

Alvarado said the project was approved with major revisions and the packet presented to the comission from the developer was expanded from 25 to 41 pages.

"Those are major revisions," he said. The revisions "addressed the concerns of the commission members," Alvarado added. 

The commission added that the developer must perform a water quality report after the project is built to determine if the watercourse and wetlands are being "adversely affected," Alvarado said.

The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed shopping center at 6:30 p.m. inside the council chambers in .

Titantic Diver to Visit Residents at The Lodge at Cold Spring

Deep sea explorer Jennifer Carter, who became the first woman to dive down to the Titanic wreckage in 1987, will at on June 26.

Carter will discuss the major events in her life such as "a cruise ship sinking in Alaska and a potentially fatal skydiving accident," according to of The Lodge at Cold Spring. She will also chronicle her adventures while searching the remnants of “the unsinkable ship.”

The presentation will be at 2 p.m. at The Lodge at Cold Spring with a complimentary dinner for all visitors preceding the speech at 12:30 p.m.

Patch Sale Day

Rocky Hill Patch is trying to help shoppers save money at local businesses with a .

Shoppers are asked to go to the large, green Patch tent that will be setup in the New Britain Avenue Plaza on Saturday, July 7th from noon to 3 p.m.

While at the tent, people will be able to receive a free swag bag full of goodies from participating area businesses and meet your patch team, Local Editor Joseph Wenzel and Advertising Manager Elyssa Haber. Customers can participate in a scavenger hunt where they can enter to win a $100 gift card from one of participating businesses.
