New Parking Being Built in Town

Once the is completed, residents will notice a new parking lot on the Church Street Extension.

The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the site plan application to build a town parking lot with seven spaces on a vacant property located towards the south end of Church Street at . The site was where the old stood until it was taken down in the late 1980s.

Rocky Hill Engineer Steve Sopelak said during the , the contractor is using the site as a staging area for his equipment. He said the contractor took old the foundation for the library and added "good fill" to the site.

"We thought it would be a good idea to add some parking for the parking that was lost during the streetscape project," Sopelak said.

Before the streetscape construction began, there were 17 spaces outside of the . When the project is completed, there will only be 13 spaces in that area with seven behind the church and six in which three are handicap on Church Street. The new lot will make up for the losses and provide extra spaces for church and town parking, Sopelak said.

The lot, which the town will maintain and plow the lot, will be not have lighting and there will be no overnight parking once it is completed. Scrubs will be added to the lot to give it a sense of privacy, Sopelak said.

Fireworks For Seniors

Seniors will get the chance to see fireworks this weekend in a pre-Fourth of July celebration and they will not even have to leave their homes.

Eric Girardi, of Bending Gravity Entertainment, will give the residents of a ", complete with a grand finale of fireworks," according to staff member

Girardi earlier this month.

The performance will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. at The Lodge at Cold Spring. There will be a cookout at 5:30 p.m. and all guests are welcome.
