Seniors Get into Halloween Spirit

Lodge at Cold Spring residents and staff have some fun for Halloween before the big storm hits.

Even though Hurricane Sandy has been threatening Connecticut, it hasn’t stopped the senior community at The Lodge at Cold Spring from getting into the Halloween mood. Last week, Enrichment Coordinator Margie Girardi challenged Executive Chef Nick Mastracchio to a pumpkin carving contest. Nick went for the traditional Jack-O-Lantern look, and Margie added a nice female touch by carving a flower into her pumpkin. Residents wanted in on the action too. They were given some smaller pumpkins to paint and decorate as they saw fit. “I don’t even know what I drew on it, but it looks kind of neat!” said one resident. After the pumpkins were carved and the paint was dry, Margie displayed all of the creations in front of the fireplace in the dining room for all to see.

This past Sunday, The Lodge opened its doors to many of its resident’s grandchildren, and even a local Girl Scout troop. They came to show off their Halloween costumes and share some “Trick or Treat” fun with our residents. There were football players, witches, princesses, and so many other costumed kids at The Lodge that day. Prizes were given to the kids with the most creative costume and the best decorated pumpkin. Kids walked out with paper bags full of treats, and residents were so happy to interact with them. “I love seeing them, it makes you feel so many years younger,” said one resident. With the hurricane approaching, residents and staff weren’t scared to have a little fun first.
