Memorial Day Fun at The Lodge

The residents at The Lodge at Cold Spring Retirement Community celebrate Memorial Day weekend with some great events and programs.

Even though the weather wasn’t the greatest, it didn’t mean there wasn’t any fun to be had for Memorial Day Weekend at The Lodge at Cold Spring. Festivities started on Friday afternoon, with Grace Durgin. She set up a number of tables filled with WWII memorabilia. She had genuine newspaper headlines, posters of Uncle Sam and Rosie the Riveter, and authentic uniforms, amongst other things, to share with residents and guests alike.

Saturday was also filled with some nice holiday events. At 2:00, the resident chorale group, The Singing Buddies, performed a number of patriotic songs for fellow residents in honor of the holidays. They sang songs like “Yankee Doodle” and “America, The Beautiful.” The fun continued at 4:00, where residents gathered for a patriotic-themed happy hour, complete with chicken wings and baseball on TV.

The celebration wouldn’t be complete without events on Memorial Day itself. Most people associate cookouts and picnics with Memorial Day, and it was no different at The Lodge. Executive Chef Nick Mastracchio fired up a new grill that was purchased just weeks ago and grilled residents hamburgers and hot dogs. This was preceded by a roll call for all veterans at The Lodge. John Callahan, an Armed Forces Veteran and Rocky Hill resident, read all the names of veteran residents and gave a brief speech of thanks and support as well. This weekend showed that even seniors can have fun on Memorial Day weekend. Check out the pictures and video to see for yourself!
