High School Graduates Play Music for Seniors
Recent Rocky Hill High School graduates (who were also part-time servers at The Lodge at Cold Spring Retirement Community) came to the community on Saturday to share some music with senior residents.
Andrew Kohanski and Kristen Lauria were two recent graduates of Rocky Hill High School. In addition to being part-time servers at The Lodge at Cold Spring Retirement Community, they were also drum majors for the school band during their senior year. Upon learning this, Lodge residents had always asked if they could come in and play some music for them. On Saturday, August 11, those wishes finally became a reality. Andrew and Kristen decided to give residents an entertaining afternoon of music before they went away to college.
Kristen brought her clarinet and Andrew played on the piano that was in the community. Both even sang a few songs. The turnout was nothing short of amazing. The number of residents showed up for Kristen and Andrew’s performance was greater than the majority of professional entertainers that come through The Lodge’s doors. They played a variety of different songs from the genres of old pop music, jazz, musicals, and even a few classic patriotic tunes. The audience sang along for some of the songs, and even encouraged the two to perform an encore once they had finished, and they were happy to oblige. It was a great way for Andrew and Kristen to say goodbye as they move on to new challenges in college.
