Video: Tree Damages Home on Grimes Road

Residents displaced after winds from Hurricane Irene cause a tree branch to fall on a house.

Matt Behlman was sleeping inside his Grimes Road home Sunday morning when he heard a loud bang around 5 a.m. Strong winds from Hurricane Irene had snapped a tree branch and it slammed into his home.

No one was injured in the incident.

Behlman and his wife were able to stay in their home Sunday night. However, he will be looking for a place to stay over the next few days because the tree branch ripped a hole in the roof. The roof and siding on the home had recently been replaced, Behlman said.

The tree also knocked the chimney off the roof and caused some other damage to the home, Behlman said.

A tree company was at Behlman’s home Monday morning using a crane to remove the tree from the roof.

Behlman said that he has started the insurance claim and expects that they will help pay for the removal of the tree and repairs to the house.
