Town Pantry Needs Food

Summer months are the slowest time for the donations.

The summer is a slow time for donations and the Rocky Hill Food Pantry is in need of non-perishable food items.

"People are just as hungry in the summer as in the winter," Human Services Director Mark Williams said. “Nine months of the year, it flows in.”

The pantry just received a large donation and is "fuller than normal for the summer," Williams said.

"The community is incredible supportive," Williams said. He added 70% to 80% of the donations come from the churches, but local businesses and the schools also donate.

In 2010, 121 households were served by the food pantry with the majority being elderly woman and single mothers, Williams said.
