Telephone Service to be Discussed at Historical Society Event

Former telephone company worker will be the featured speaker.

Telephone service will be the featured topic this Thursday night at the .

On the fourth Thursday of every month, the Historical Society holds a special presentation, which is followed by a discussion.

“The people that come sometimes share their memories,” Ellen Oslund, a volunteer at the Historical Society, said.  The event is held at the , at 785 Old Main St., at 7 p.m.

Retired telephone company employee Joe Kochanek will be the featured speaker and will discuss everything from switchboards to party lines to rotary dial phones.

“Kids have no idea what a dial up phone is,” Anita Watson, volunteer at the Historical Society, said.

The Historical Society is also in need of volunteers including a recording secretary, someone to preserve paper goods and give oral histories.

“We don’t need an expert, we need someone to become an expert,” Watson said.
