A native of Rocky Hill has the chance of lifetime to compete for the United States in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Katie Matthews has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in track and field this weekend at the University of Oregon. She will compete in 10,000 meters in hopes of earning a spot on the U.S. team for next month’s games in London.
The former Rocky Hill High School graduate and track star has spent the last four years . In February, Matthews in the indoor 5000m run and qualified for NCAA Tournament.
During her junior season, Matthews finished in the top-three in every race for indoor track, according to her Boston University profile. She would go on to receive first team All-American honors after she placed eighth in the 10,000 meters final at the NCAA Championships for 2010-2011 season. She also qualified for the USA Nationals team that same year.
