Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry Closed Until Further Notice

Ferry Park parking lot is flooded.

The Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry is closed until further notice because of Hurricane Irene, according to Department of Transportation officials.

Ferry Capt. Larry Stokes said that the ferry is closed today and could be closed all weekend. Stokes spent Monday morning surveying the flooding at Ferry Park.

Ferry Park parking lot is flooded almost to the entrance and the docks are underwater. The water level has risen since Sunday afternoon when Patch was last at the park. Tree branches and wires are down at the entrance of the park as well.

DOT workers "tied down" the Cumberland towboat and the Hollister III barge, Kevin Nursick, DOT spokesman, said on Friday. He added they do not expect any problems with the ferries.

Stokes was also deciding if the "ferry office" had to be moved. He said he contacted a company that could move it tomorrow.
