Rocky Hill Gears Up for Hurricane Sandy

The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and wind to the region, and town officials are finalizing plans as the storm approaches Connecticut.

Rocky Hill town officials, like other towns in the region wasted no time in preparing for Hurricane Sandy.

Before it was even clear which track Sandy was heading, Town Manager Barbara Gilbert said officials had convened for a meeting on Thursday. They have since met again twice.

Some of the precautions that have already been put into place: highway crews began picking up leaves so that they don’t clog street catch basins, fuel tanks on town vehicles have been filled and emergency lists have been distributed, she said.

Gilbert also said the town is making sure it has enough cots in place should there be a need to commence with an emergency shelter.

“Last year it went very smoothly,” Gilbert said. “It was not a fun trip, but it was our first run through for anything like this, and we managed to get through.”

The Rocky Hill Town Hall is used as the town’s shelter, because the high school only has a generator for the auditorium.
